1st Communion Information

Second grade is an exciting year, spiritually and academically.  We discuss how we became children of God at Baptism.  We learn about God’s loving forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and we also learn about the Mass in preparation of receiving First Communion.  Children are encouraged to share their spiritual and educational growth both at home and at school.

We try to take advantage of grade-level educational field trips when they are offered.  We have enjoyed trips to the Apple Orchard, Stocker Center, and Bowling.

If you ask the students what they look forward to in second grade, they will say receiving the Sacraments and learning cursive.

The teachers try to instill in each child the gift of "Loving to Learn," so each child continues to grow through learning no matter what the subject may be.  The children are encouraged to share their spiritual and educational growth both at home and in the classroom.

Core curriculum includes higher reading and comprehension, mathematical problem solving and language arts.  We work on vocabulary, looking for context clues, main idea and details, story setting, cause and effect, making predictions, sequencing, comprehension, and summarizing.  Our math series, develops a strong foundation and reinforces all skills taught.

Fun additional projects that reinforce learning include transportation projects, dinosaur diorama, and interesting classroom robots using the concepts of Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle.

We try to take advantage of grade-level educational field trips when they are offered.  We have enjoyed trips to Stocker Center, Great Lakes Science Center, and Sandy Ridge Nature Center.

If you ask the students what they look forward to in second grade, they will say receiving the Sacraments and learning cursive.
